Three (3) Long Stock Ideas from Contrarian Investor Virtual Conference V

Attendees heard three exclusive stock ideas at Contrarian Investor Virtual Conference V on Dec. 17. Presentations and recordings were made available to attendees but are now being released to the general public. The next iteration of the Contrarian Investor Virtual Conference will be held next month. Tickets are available through our subscription plan.

  • Matt Zabloski of Delbrook Capital presented on Torex Gold Resources, which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under ticker symbol TXG and in the U.S. under TORXF on the pink sheets. “At the current spot gold price, TXG is trading at half the value of its peers,” making for the widest point ever for the implied discount to spot gold. “We believe this valuation gap will close in the coming months.” Read the presentation here or watch the video below.

  • Christian Putz of ARR Investment Partners gave a presentation on S&T AG, an Austrian “internet-of-things and Industry 4.0” company. S&T trades on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under ticker symbol SANT. Read the presentation.

  • Sean Stannard-Stockton of Ensemble Capital presented on First American Financial (NYSE:FAF). Read the presentation here or watch the video below.

This page will update with other videos so be sure to check back.

Contrarian Stock Talks Inaugural Edition: Wrap Up

Attendees at the first ever Contrarian Stock Talks webinar on Nov. 10 got to hear three exclusive long ideas:

Andreas Aen of Symmetry Invest A/S presented on Gaming Innovation Group, which trades on the gray market in the U.S. under stock symbol GIGI. “This is a company that we think is the cheapest one in Scandinavia right now,” Aen said, with price-to-earnings of free cashflow yield of 4.4 next year. “It’s basically priced for bankruptcy, despite the fact that it doesn’t have a lot of debt.”

Watch Aen’s presentation on our YouTube channel below. The full write-up is available on Symmetry’s website.

Maj Soueidan of GeoInvesting LLC discussed his thesis on Information Analysis, an OTC stock trading under ticker symbol IAIC. The IT software company “falls into the category of a quiet little nanocap company that noone really noticed” despite some “interesting developments” that have taken place recently.

Soueidan also mentioned Ocean Bio-Chem (NASDAQ: OBCI) as a stock that had just been added to GeoInvesting’s “Buy on Pullback” portfolio. That portfolio, which looks for overreactions in price movement, has seen seven previous iterations. OBCI is the first addition to the new vintage.

“There’s an assumption that because of the [COVID] vaccine, that some stocks where the growth were benefiting from COVID-19…would see an abatement of their growth.” While this is true for some companies, there are others that will continue to benefit from COVID, even if and when there is a vaccine.

OBCI, which creates maintenance products for the boating and RV industry, developed a product during the ebola outbreak. The product, a sanitation solution, benefited from COVID but when the vaccine news broke earlier this week its stock sold off. While it has since rebounded, Soueidan still views it as undervalued.

Short Ideas Move Stocks at Fourth Virtual Conference

Four presenters provided exclusive “best idea” short stock picks at the fourth Contrarian Investor Virtual Conference on Oct. 22, 2020.

An audio recording was made available to premium subscribers. Become one here for just $8/month or $88/year (those prices will increase soon, as of Nov. 1). There are numerous other benefits to premium subscribers that are identified at the link above.

Rob Medd of Bucephalus Research kicked off the proceedings with his short thesis: ACS, Actividades de Construcción y Servicios, S.A. (PINK:ACSAF), a Spanish engineering firm. “There are multiple problems in multiple stages of this company,” Medd said. “We think it’s on its way … to a sort of recapitalization/self-liquidation.”

Wes of Glasshouse Research presented the firm’s 10th short campaign and second of the year, targeting Columbia Sportswear (NASDAQ:COLM). The 39-page report, titled “Columbia Sportswear Headed for a Rocky Fall (Under Armour Part Deux)” was subsequently posted on their website.

Columbia Sportswear reported third-quarter earnings after the close on Oct. 29. Earnings, revenue, and sales outlook all fell short of analyst estimates. COLM shares sold off by about 17% in the after hours session.

Watch Wes’ presentation below via our YouTube channel:

  • Siegfried Eggert of Grizzly Research had a short thesis about SPI Energy Co. (NASDAQ:SPI), calling the company an “egregious pump and dump.” The report is available on the firm’s website.
  • Adam Gefvert of White Diamond Research presented eXP Realty (NASDAQ:EXPI), a stock that has risen over 400% since mid-May. The real estate brokerage is “massively overvalued right now,” even after pulling back from its peak, Gefvert said. The presentation can be downloaded here. Or watch it here via our YouTube channel:

The next virtual investing event takes place Dec. 10. Individual tickets will be made available soon but in the meantime the so-called season ticket option is available. Subscribers get access to the next five events for the price of four.
